The dining room at 43rd Street Deli full of customers under the neon sign

A mom-and-pop shop that became an institution

Terri and Paul opened it. Grace runs the kitchen now.

43rd Street Deli was built to be more than a place to eat. Families, students and people who have come every week for thirty years all end up in the same room. Grace Cakmis, the founders' daughter, is proprietor and chef, and she has kept the traditions while taking the classics somewhere new.

On the record

Forty-one years on the same side of Gainesville.

Founded in 1984 by Terri and Paul Cakmis. One location now, open every day of the week.

We have been coming here for months, nearly once a week, and have yet to have a poor experience. The consistency of excellence in service, food, and diversified revolving specials menu make this place my ONLY option for going out for breakfast or brunch.

Met a friend in the area for brunch. Don't sleep on the daily specials! Everything we had was delicious! We really enjoyed the breakfast quesadilla and fresh squeezed juice of the day! Stuffed croissant was interesting, but yummy. The lamb and feta sausage was also interesting and we're glad we tried it. We were intrigued by the johnny cake pancakes (made of cornbread) and were pleasantly surprised! I'd love to go back and try more things!
